MA sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach / MA in Applied Irish, School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences, Dublin Institute of Technology, in conjunction with Gaelchultúr Teoranta.
Welcome to the webpage of MA sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach/ MA in Applied Irish. This part-time, two year course commenced in January 2008 and the fourth student cohort completed their studies in June 2015.
The MA programme is taught by the School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences, College of Arts and Tourism, Dublin Institute of Technology, in conjunction with Gaelchultúr Teoranta (www.gaelchultur.com). It is directly funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The programme team regrets that is will not be possible to offer this programme for the academic year 2017-18.
New employment opportunities have emerged in recent years for graduates who have high level language skills in Irish, especially since the passing into law of the Official Languages Act 2003 and the recognition of Irish as an official working language of the European Union. This new MA programme in Applied Irish is aimed at employees in the public sector who work or will work through the medium of Irish and at graduates to wish to take advantage of the employment opportunities which will be available in Ireland and in Europe in the years ahead.
The course will also be suitable for those who wish to work as translators, interpreters, lawyer- linguists, proofreaders and secretaries, and it will be of interest as well to teachers, journalists and those working in business and in cultural tourism.
